Dear Campus Community,
We are pleased to inform you that Universiti Malaya (UM) is embarking on a transformation journey to elevate the University to excellence in the global knowledge network and we need your input to make it a success.
Since its establishment in the Klang Valley in the 1950s UM has made many significant positive contributions to our society, country and the world. Teaching, research and knowledge creation remain at the heart of UM’s mission as exemplified by our University motto “Ilmu Puncha Kemajuan”, i.e., knowledge is the source of progress.
However, the first two decades of the 21st century have seen enormous changes in all aspects of life and work. In the global higher education sector, universities increasing face competition for talent and resources. Expectations of stakeholders are greater than ever before. Moreover, universities are expected to achieve their goals within the constraints of limited financial resources.
In the face of these challenges UM is embarking on a transformation journey by re-examining its current approaches in all aspects of university life, in the light of its foundational principles and aspirations for the future.
Thus far, we are happy to report that a number of initiatives have been undertaken: (i) Visioning Workshop held on August 5, 2020 with participants comprising the UM Board of Directors, UM Management Team and Deans/Directors, (ii) engagements with stakeholders on issues & challenges and possible solutions, held from September 2 – October 1, 2020, and (iii) gallery walk to share the work done from the stakeholders' engagement and to get feedback from visitors and campus community, is open from 16th October to 30th November, 2020. Further information on these initiatives can be found at https://ppsg.um.edu.my/um-transformation-journey
Moving along in this process of transformation, we seek your views and input about how we can best move our beloved University forward as we chart the future of UM together. We look forward to your cooperation and support!
